| Have a dongle for mobile internet on my netbook. Vodafone have confirmed the charge is £9.99 per 50Mb whilst roaming, which I don't think is too bad. Obviously I'll need to turn graphics off and perhaps use a compression server to keep the traffic down, but I reckon that'll do nicely. Was going to post this in the thread where we discussed roaming, but the site search tells me there are no such topics | |

| I also have a 3g Vodafone dongle and came to the conclusion that for the little amount it's likely to be used it's not worth worrying about trying to find something else cheaper. | |

| Make sure you ring Vodafone to have international roaming enabled. It's disabled on dongle accounts by default to stop people running up bills in the thousands. | |

| I'd like to resurrect this to get some comparisons.
Currently, Vodaphone are charging £10 for 24 hours, up to 50 MB (I think?). But, the 24 hour period starts and ends at midnight, so if you use it at say 9pm one evening, then again at 9 the next morning, that 2 lots of £10 straight away.
There's got to be some better deals. | |

| Last year I spoke to O2, told them they were sponsoring the rally, gave them our website and they slapped a credit on my account for more than I had spent whilst out there, which was a fair bit ........ bonus! | |

| That was good Dee. Might try something like that with Vodaphone, or switch to O2. Vodaphone 'phone roaming isn't too bad now - see here. But I'd like to use a dongle on the laptop more this year. | |

| Just to clarify the o2 position. They are supporting the rally's organisers, support crews and the 2 AA vehicles by providing phones/airtime (but not internet) for the 6 vehicles being used by the officials and the 2 AA crew. o2 and the AA work in close unison in the commercial world; o2 providing comms to the AA. The linkage to the rally is based on health and safety for communications between the entrants, the officials and the AA crews. | |
