John - I think I must have missed something as well; or is this all part of the mischievous organisers' masterplan? Headspin

Tis the organisers' masterplan to confuss us all I believe Question . I quote from an email we received when we first signed up as Team No.18 "First things first- 'your start/team' number is 12". Now how confussing or confusing is that? Maybe, just maybe, I have yet to learn to read, or !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! them there organisers are upto something devious cheers

Ah! That now explains why I was confused. Rolling Eyes I thought for Team 18 I'd put 'your start/team' number is 21'! At least that now clears the matter up pirat

Did I miss the 2012 Team List? Or did it fall through the rusty gaps of forum consciousness? Question

We know who we are but need to identify the 44 other teams we will likely see passing us along the way. Crying or Very sad

[OK] card at the ready.

No you've not missed anything Si - it's been a yoyo again with teams/crew changing. So, rather than confuse matters (would we do that Rolling Eyes ) we'll publish a list once we pass the payment deadline.

Even today we've had yet another change of crew

Afghan, redundancy, family reasons have also reduced us to 41 runners - so we'll be touting at Stafford to see if we can recruit a couple of teams.

Given your comment need to identify the 44 other teams we will likely see passing us along the way and that you are in a 127 Ambulance, I'm assuming that most of the time you'll be going in the opposite direction of the intended route? clown

See you at the w/e. cheers

That's how it seems to work. Those map thingies are pretty ambiguous you know... North, south, up, down.
We just like seeing those smiling faces coming down the road towards us.

Haha! the ammount of times you see a rally car going in the opposite direction and thinking - have we gone wrong or have they? or when you get the road closures like we has last year and everyone else was turned around, but the road opened just in time for us! lol!

Good times! :-D there is of course the road books that point you completely upside down from where you want to go :-) especially after the organisers have had a few Guinness and then try to write new routes around road closures!

Regular Mac competitors will have seen team 27 spending more time going against the flow than with. They fly off in the wrong direction, double back, retrace & generally seem to charge round like headless chickens.
The result - They have won the event 6 or 7 times.

SO dont knock it, it seems to work.

You are right Mark. In fact I remember asking them one year what on earth they were up to. The reply was quite enlightening and, in hindsight, very understandable Rolling Eyes Selwyn's routes are so picturesque and full of detail that, quite often, they felt that they had missed a vista or panorama or building or some part of our ancient history; and thus they retraced, and sometimes doubly retraced their passage in order to absorb what Selwyn had put before them. clown It would be rude not to!

We will provide vistas, panoramas, buildings and history etc. But retracing your route too often on the H4H 4x4 European Rally and you'll never get to Bavaria!! - well not in June! clown Fun

And as for Car 27 - they've been brilliant over the years. But look out - the throne has recently transferred to Car 32! http://www.avo.org.uk/team32/ Hail

True, I may well hold temporary title to the crown but only because we made a concerted effort this year not to 1) Bugger it up, 2) Blow up, 3) catch fire, or 4) throw all our toys out of the pram & go home, all of which we have done in the past few years with a detrimental effect on our final positions. We just wanted to shake things up a bit to proove it could be done. If we play again no doubt we'll be back to our more traditional form.

Crews take note. Blowing up & catching fire (in a forest section with bleedin great 'no naked flames' signs) is not conducive to overall victory. Buggering it up is a temporary problem which can usually be recovered by 'paying more attention!'.
Also "sticking it in a ditch' is only a minor problem providing the stone wall isnt too close & you 'keep your foot down' to ensure sucessful egress from said ditch although see above about 'paying more attention' only shouted louder from the passenger seat.

With regard to 'throwing toys out of pram' followed by 'whinging at marshalls' , we tried to avoid any of that this year.
In fact we decided to be nice to marshals & offer them food, drink & gifts at every opportunity.
Not sure if this made a difference to the overall results but it is perhaps something you may all wish to try this year. Perhaps cooking their meals & putting up their tents could be worth a go?

Wise words which I'm sure ( Evil or Very Mad ) all the 2012 H4H 4x4 gang will appreciate Rolling Eyes
