| But has thrown in the towel today...! Tried driving into town and got squeeling and graunching sounds from underneath and intermitent loss of drive. Suspect the gearbox or transfer box is buggered.... feel a shopping trip to Ashcroft coming up! | |

| There by the grace of God ......
I could say something, but wont. At least it had the decency to wait until after the rally.

That would never catch on, timeless style, peerless pedigree and excellent reliability in one vehicle? nope, not in my lifetime!

| Nick, can you remind me, what is the "m" an abbreviation of ? is it miles or metres !
Nice pictures of the event again, lots of mud this time and I notice that you were using the winch again ( did I tell you that I have some footage of it in use last year ).
Hope to catch up with you later in August.

Pete & Chrys Hmmmm - got to own up to operator error last year, as my 11 year old (at the time) son will happily remind me of every time it's discussed ....

| Quick update guys... finally managed (with Toby Heasons fine assistance - especially with a recalcitrant bolt... over an hour and lots of tricks to finally release!) to get the gearbox & transfer box out and with Dy's assistance get them to AW Transmissions in Coventry (fine fellows they are too!).
Transfer box is definitely scrap... makes horrible noises as it goes past a sticky part of it's rotation and we got a cupfull of iron fillings in fluid out of it!
It looks like the gearbox output shaft has seen too much action as well so they are both gonna be get the Land Rover equivalent of mouth to mouth and be all shiny for Stoneleigh!
Pick them up Friday... get them back in with a new clutch Saterday/Sunday... buy beers and big curry for yer man Toby and the job as they say... is a good un!
Fingers crossed! | |

| Just heard from Andrew at AW Transmissions in Coventry and my transfer box is scrap... apparently there is supposed to be some fluid in there with all the whirly around parts.... So... it's a shiny new (well... reconditioned) one off the shelf. The gearbox is worn (bearings, synchromesh, shaft splines etc) so that's getting reconned. Pick everything up Friday... fit Saturday... ready for Stoneleigh!!! Anyone opened a book yet..?!!!! | |
