| Thanks matey... really only need a short engine as the head etc has just been done. Course... concern is whether it's a false economy getting another engine... especially if the same thing happens 100 mile into the rally...... | |

| Frank, worth a trip down to HURST GARAGE, DT2 8RA, not far from Bovvy. He's the only bloke I know who can build you a tax-exempt Td5 88" SVX replica Don't look on Google Satellite view..... it's a sorry sight for any Landy owner | |

| Hmmm, know what you mean. I'd not buy a car from his "forecourt" but if anyone has a spare (insert obscure Land Rover part here) it'll be him. Nick Evans garage at Crossways (about a mile down the road, other side of the railway crossing up on the left) is pretty good but he wouldn't have an engine lying around. | |

| Not good news, but at least it's happened well in advance of the event. Hope you get it sorted quickly and relatively cheaply. At least you've got time to give the replacement a good run for a while before we go. - Skibum346 wrote:

Do you go in there on a regular basis Alan? I've been looking for the rear section of headling for my doublecab for ages. LR wanted some stoopid price for a new one.

| I can't nip in there for a couple of weeks as I'm away from Thursday for 10 days, but happy to stick my head through the door when I get back?
Did you get a part number when you spoke to Guy Salmon (I presume it was them?) I ask as I can sometimes pull "trade" on larger parts through a supplier I know.

If Harry Snow has got the bits you need, my Son and Co-Driver has a garage in Bethnal Green and could do the work for you at a reasonable rate (ask JJ) if it would help. I don't know where you are, but if it's not too far we could even sort out a recovery truck to bring it in.[/quote] Frank I can recommend Wix (son of Steve). He has worked loads on the Merc, bringing her up to scratch. Wix still has to sort a couple of bits for me, maybe we could all meet up if you come down. JJ
