DISCO 3 / RANGE ROVER 2.7 TDV ENGINE - IMMOBILISED AND WE THINK WE HAVE FOUND A PART

My vehicle has just been in for a service and had a battery change.

It has now immobilised itself.

Nothing of any help in the user manual.

We have disconnected and reconnected the battery as recommended by soime people.

Still immobilised.

Any SENSIBLE ideas please from Disco 3 TDV engine experts?

I suspect it'll need re-coding. A lot of modern vehicles need a temporary supply connected when disconnecting the battery to save codes, programming etc...

Hope not - probably won't be cheap if it does.

Adrian, no consolation, but simply changing the battery or even leaving it disconnected for weeks at a time shouldn't cause a TDV6 to immobilise. I've frequently had mine disconnected when doing work on the car, from changing airbags to wiring in a second battery. I'll drop my co-driver a line as he's an independent LR tech specialising in TDV6 and particularly electronic systems in LRs.

Apparently if one disconnects the battery while key in ign it 'thinks' its being stolen and the key blanks oot resulting in the imobaliser kicking in.
Ive sent him the codes on how to reset it.
Hope that it works.

Sorry, it didn't work and car off to land rover garage. We got the engine to turn but not fire.

Keep us posted. From what you were describing and from Iain's conversation it was looking like the car had gone into "crash" mode as a result of losing Canbus comms. It may be that the fuel system is still thinking the car is crashed, hence you can turn over but no fuel delivery.

With all the plugs on the back of the HEVAC and the Nav Screen optical cable checked, did the AA man get the various ECUs talking to each other again? Definitely a comms fault somewhere in the chain and the work you had undertaken all points to a connector not seating properly on the climate controls, radio, switch panel or nav screen (they all act as hubs on the canbus) OR a spike somewhere in the system frying one of the modules.

We checked the connections we could below the centre console and behind the radio. All seemed OK. The mystery is that it fired a couple of times. AA reckon CANBUS too, and think that a system reload via the LR computer at the garage may fix it - fingers crossed.

It is on the way to Ashford now as Barretts Canterbury were their usual very unhelpful selves!
