| Okay guy 'n gals; can we knock this on the head. The authorities, in particualar the county Rights of Way officer and Landmarc (MOD) are fully aware of what we are doing and have copies of the route.
Calmness and Common-sense is all that is needed on the day. I have stressed throughout this is not a speed event - indeed I've welcomed Landmarc's interest in monitoring us as we pass through the Plain. You will be on Byways Open to All Traffic and have a right to be there. However as some of those BOATS are in areas of Special Scientific Interest we need to respect the environment and take care; no-one wants WWIII from a charity fund-raising event. At worst, get off the BOAT, and use your 'ration pack' to get you to the next point of interest. There's still10 days ahead of you!

That clears a lot of my concerns, thank you. - evo4x4 wrote:

And hopefully, will credit us, when we demonstrate a sensible attitude. - evo4x4 wrote:

Exactly. - evo4x4 wrote:

Wonder what a:
group of "anti 4x4" walkers farmer whose yard we pass through house owner who's only access is the byway we're on
will think of a large group of vehicles passing by.
You know what? No matter what we do, how small a group we're in or how much turf we lay behind us, they'll still hate us. I've been out on a byway on my friend's farm in our 90 (proper farmer's job with an ifor canopy) helping with the sheep and got a gobful from a rambler. I drive through the ford at the end of my road on the way back from another farm on a regular basis and daytrippers lying on "the beach" yell abuse despite me sitting patiently until some get the message and start moving out the ROAD. I stop my engine when I see horses, I take part in lane restoration and I get called a..... well actually they might be right there.
The whole "we must grovel and scrape" business makes me puke. Which is good, because I've just eaten too much and can't afford to put the weight on.
Ultimately we are ABSOLUTELY ALLOWED to drive on these ROADS, we will all, I am sure, show appropriate caution and courtesy and anyone who gets the hump can shove my not insubstantial toolbox up their backside. Sideways. In a non-confrontational and appeasing way of course.
................ That's why LARA, GLASS and every other responsible 4x4/greenlaning/access rights group fight for our rights, promote our recreation in as many sensible ways as possible and come up with things like the C of C to demonstrate our responsible attitude. We have the right to use a Public ROW that has vehicular rights as much as a horse rider has the right to use a Bridleway and a walker a footpath. Unfortunately, there are groups out there that think it's OK to go tearing around the countryside in huge groups (one trail riders group is boasting about a group of 53 on one trip and attempting to get over 100 on another, to create a green laning record), ripping up the tracks and byways, going off piste and generally making a mess wherever they go. As alway, it's the minority that spoil it for the rest of us by getting the attention and bad press. I know exactly how it feels to get a "gobful from a rambler" and have had many a discussion with a farmer about the legality of a track across his land. But if we don't work with the authorities (and I don't mean grovel to them), we'll just end up with even more lanes closed, because we don't defend our rights to access an ROW in a sensible and sustainable way. In the mean time, since we do have the blessing of the local authorities and such, then lets enjoy it. I do still have some reservations, but I'll shut up now.

| TBH, I think, there will be natural gaps, by the time some work out how to do the tulips etc, chat, drink tea, and marshalls will be out, so, rely on us to hold a few back every so often, lots of time to get to ferry, so no rush.
See you all soon | |

| Well we'll have to stop for Tiffin, that might create a slight tailback, but I'm sure the chaps will be patient | |

| Al you must try not to mix fantasy with reality, do not let it all blur together, save that for the evening campfire, and stop watching that bloody film. | |

This is rapidly spiralling out of control! First Mad Max, then Lord of the Rings and now the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan! There is no way that I'm getting off any boat and relying on an MRE (meal ready to eat) to get me to shore! I thought it was a strictly dock to dock boat trip. Actually, thinking about it, "Don't get off the boat" is a reference to Apocalypse Now. Come along Sarah, let's get back to the Bull Bar, they're all mad here!
