Leaving it to the last minute also means leaving it in my account earning interest for longer. Hey, 20 years in financial services has taught me that at least!

As for using a cheque, while my business gets charged for writing cheques, we get charged a heck of a lot more for electronic transfers, the robbing gits Who'd run a small business these days, hmm?

On the plus side, I know the cost to my bank is higher to process cheques than it is for them to manage a transfer, so I see it as a little bit of financial karma kicking sand in their faces.

Basically if you're a small business, turnover less than £1m, you can expect to get thoroughly soaked by your bank. You can change banks from time to time, as most offer introductory "free" banking, but that leaves you with other problems as overdrafts, charge cards and chequebooks are often only granted once you have a track record with the bank, no matter what your audited accounts say about your creditworthiness.

Have to say... we (Spotlight Learning Ltd) get a good service from Barclays.. Charged for cheques & cash deposits... transfers are free..... Course.. we are a SMALL small business so everything we do is electronic banking.
