| .........had a day of mixed fortunes. Took a couple of days off work to do some jobs on the Jeep. Driving into Number Two Son's workshop, the Truck starts pulling to the right when braking. Perhaps I've got a sticky caliper thinks I. 'No Problem', we'll take it off at the workshop and sort it out. Half a mile later, smoke coming from the nearside front wheel. Pulled in swiftly, fortunately into a large puddle which I used to extinguish the flames coming from the nearside brakes. The rush-hour commuters were highly entertained outside Mile End tube station, to see me jacking up the Jeep with the Hi-Lift, and removing the wheel in the p*ssing rain to free the caliper. Did get a few jobs done in the end. Fitted Hi-Lift mounting brackets to bonnet. Replaced bottom ball joint (after much hitting with BFH) Fitted new catalytic converter (after much cursing, swearing and hitting with a large knocking stick) Oh, and the reason for the fire in the front brakes. Didn't quite get all the mud, crap and grass off after Dartford 4 x 4 in December. Mud froze, caliper stuck, grass caught fire | |

| Lidl and Aldi are usually pretty good for powder fire extinguishers. I normally raid them every couple of years to replace the ones scattered around the workshop, kitchen and both the Landies. Only had to use one once, and that was to save a VW Karmann Ghia with an engine fire. It reignited a few minutes later, but by then the boys in red had turned up, so it bought the chap enough time to save the car. Of course if it had been an X5 I'd have left it to burn | |

This coming from the man with the fluoescent Discovery 'Arry, there is a 4" vent at the front of the screen which allows the bonnet to open without putting the jack through the screen. I did think of mounting it on the spare wheel carrier, but that would block valuable sponsorship space. Also didn't want it high on the roof rack, because of access.

Not for my motor. But we may need to use it a lot for the Landys, so we need easy access
