Very Happy Hello all, something for you to ponder -

Three students rent a hotel room for a night at the cost of £30, they each pay £10. After they have gone up to their room, the hotel owner realises that the room was discounted that weekend & should only have been £25 per night. He takes 5 £1 coins from the till & goes upstairs to give them the change. On the way, he thinks to himself 'I can't split £5 3 ways', he puts £2 in his pocket. He gives the students back £1 each, so therefore, they have paid £9 each for the room - 3 x £9 = £27, + the £2 in the hotel owners' pocket - £27 + £2 = £29 --Where is the other £1 Question Question

I'll post the answer tomorrow night Wink

The Answer

There is no missing pound.

You don't add the £2 to the £27 they've paid because the £2 is already included in that £27 - The £2 features twice - not correct!

The actual sum is the £27 plus the £3 they got back, which brings you to the original £30.

The premise of the question is false! Twisted Evil
