| The Land Rover has finally finished the rally and got home in the best tradition of James May.
Next step is to order the recon gearbox from Ashcroft's.
As the gearbox is coming off may as well do the clutch as well.
Also thinking of changing the transfer box to a 1:21 to give better manners on the motorway. Anyone got one knocking around in their shed that they fancy swapping for beer tokens as the budget won't stretch to a reconned Ashcroft's one

| Glad to hear it got home safely Tim, albeit on a recovery vehicle. Good idea to change the clutch plate whilst the gearbox is out, you never know | |

| Hi Tim, David says try a D1 transfer box. How did the occupants travel back from Dover in the end we missed you at the port. Sheila and David. | |

| Hi. yep D1 box is what I'm after
We had a fairly smooth change over of hire car at Calais to a Honda CRV with 150 miles on the clock.
Yard was a little difficult to locate and we had to call central control as the person wasn't answering their mobile but only took about an hour in the end.
Even managed to get on the same ferry as a majority of others

| Tim,pleased for you on 3 counts 1/Landy home 2/more importantly - you all got home OK 3/ you met with other teams on the ferry. Being the naive souls that we are, Team Muck 'n Malarky and ourselves actually believed our caring, trustworthy etc etc organisors, when they announced that the return crossing was non-negotiable,non transferrable, and so timed our arrival at calais for the pre-booked 7.50 sailing, only to find that ,yes we were on that sailing but it was not going until 9.30 and ALL other teams, including said organisors, were on earlier ferries ! Never mind, it was a peaceful, sober crossing. | |

| we were also able to get onto the 1755 crossing that meant we drove the 300 miles home rather than resting over near Dover. Great time had by one and all. Quote from our elder daughter. "THought you weren't going to apply to go again" Tod did warn me less than 2 days into the rally that \David was changing his mind.

| We made it onto the earlier ferry, the 1605 which was delayed by over an hour. This ment that we then got stuck on the M1 for another hour, as in the highways agency's wisdom it was a good idea to close it. So a 3 1/2 hr journey became 6 hours!
As for doing the rally again, well plans are afoot to take the missus next time. Dont think Im alowed to leave it two years to do it again. So application will be going in again.
As for the old man, he survived, and would do it again sometime.... he'll need a new driver! lol
