Fuel on 17th June Empty
PostSubject: Fuel on 17th June   Fuel on 17th June EmptySun Apr 01, 2012 11:49 pm

I notice from the knee deep amount of paper work sent to us by our honourable organisers that they believe we might find fuel hard to obtain on the 17th. If I assume that we shall be passing somewhat close to Caen, there will be several Supermarkets there that will have filling stations that are 24/7, so for those of us that feel the need for fuel paying via a credit card only.

A link for the Supermarkets is as follows: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=supermarkets+in+caen+france&oq=supermarkets+in+Caen&aq=1v&aqi=g-v3&aql=1&gs_l=hp.1.1.0i15l3.

I hope this is useful information for us all. Smile

I previous years, most have filled up in Portsmouth (there's a Tescos and several other fuel dumps) just before going to the ferry. Therefore (unless you drive a particularly thirsty truck), Sunday isn't a problem.

As Richard points out, supermarkets and other fuel dumps are around (throughout the trip) that are un-manned and open 24/7, so as long as you have a credit or debit card (Chip n Pin) then you won't have a problem.

If the entourage passes near Caen they will be 'off-route' - fuelling in/near Portsmouth is the better option.

Having said that, and with further thought, many will probably pass near Caen Rolling Eyes

I imagined that the Portsmouth-Caen crossing would bring most of of us close to Caen (organisers exempt as they are on a different agenda) and its Supermarkets for fuel.

I would point out that it is very unlikely that the Supermarkets are likely to be open for food shopping as France is not so liberal with the sunday opening hours as most of you are used to in the UK.

Richard - When we met at Stafford, I forgot to show you an important bit of kit that we organisers carry with us. They are called 'goal-posts'. They are quite large - nevertheless, we move them around quite a bit! pirat

A big 'Yes' to the Supermarket/food warning you've given out. sunny

Without a shadow of doubt. They book us on one crossing and take another to an entirely different destination, and imagine their tulips are going to make us all forgive them. Might work on the females of the rally, but for us blokes only a huge quantity of + points, or additional free beers will do the trick. Damn wide goal posts Keith. Evil or Very Mad

Couldn't get to sleep at first last night - something to do with a conscience; then realised I haven't got one - and slept like a log Twisted Evil

No doubt teams from past years already knew it, but those of us that are the new kids of 2012 much appreciate, I am sure, that we are safe in the hands of organisers with no conscience No Suspect
