| I was having a think today (dangerous I know) that most people will be travelling down to the general area of the start on Friday 18th.
If anyone that has a CB in their vehicle keeps it set on Channel 23 UK, it would give folks the opportunity to contact other vehicles and perhaps form small convoys on the way down.
Also gives you a chance to test your CB out.

| Sounds good, but you'll need to be within 2 or 3 miles, at the most, of each other. Most times a mile and you'll loose signal. | |

| And if you've not SWRd your twig you can expect to fry your CB trying to contact others.....
Oi, Steve, you've not got a burner have you? Fed up with numpties with 40w obliterating my chances of listening in on the cheese of the week discussion that can often be heard around M25/M26/M2 area on the Thursday night.
I'm running a legal 4w with a Sirio Performer 800 and can get 8-10 miles in good conditions, 4-5 more usual.

Nope, just good quality cables and connectors, very low SWR and a few minor adjustments from my old trade as a Radio Technician in the Navy

| Got home today, having been away for the past couple of weeks, to find my CB has been delivered-now got to fit it. Reading the instructions, it says i've got to set the SWR but the thunderpole ariel says the SWR is pretuned. As this could be in chineses for all it means to me,help please !! | |

| I hate it when they say the twig is pre tuned - how can it be, when the thing that can affect the SWR the most is the way the twig is installed, grounding, cable connections, cable quality etc... etc... | |

| Alan, will you be taking your meter with you, I might need a tweak on my system, only if you don't mind that is I'm only used to using a PMR so setting up a CB is over my head | |

| I'll have a meter in the truck and I believe JJ is taking his and a soldering iron so we should be able to sort you out between us. | |

| We got our CB fitted the other day (a few more holes now in the Land Rover) and also got one of those tuning meter thingies - we'll bring it along. It took filpin' hours to tune it (under close supervision), so we kinda know how to do it although still don't understand it.

| I'll have SWR meter and soldering iron (and bolt croppers for fine-tuning the antenna) with me should anyone need it. Tony/Nicky, have you got the Thunderpole Orbitor antenna? If so I needed to lop chunks off mine on the Disco and a further 2cm when it ended up on JJ's car. Not to say it will need it with yours though; as Nick says above, it varies from install to install.
Got my CB from Knights, who do some workshop testing and tuning before they send them out and with a bit of tweaking have an SWR of 1.1-1.2 on UK C1, 1.4 on UK40 and the reverse on the EU channels. Have to say, the Sirio Performer is a cracking antenna, takes a walloping from branches without drama and will fold flat along your roof when needed.
