| Copied from a document on the AA website: - Quote :
Restrictions on the circulation of vehicles are enforced in several German cities, in order to reduce the levels of emission of fine particulates in some areas. The areas where restrictions apply will be indicated by signs “Umweltzone” showing coloured vignettes ("Plakette") - green, yellow and red. To enter these areas, drivers will have to stick a vignette on their vehicle windscreen, this can be obtained from technical inspection centres or approved garages, fine for non-compliance €40.00. The owner of the vehicle (German or foreign) is required to present the registration certificate of the vehicle and pay a fee of 5 to 10 Euros. The colour of the vignette issued will depend on the type of engine and the Euro classification of the vehicle. The fee is a ‘one-off’ charge and remains valid as long as it remains valid in any German City as long as it remains fixed in the vehicle i.e. not transferred to another vehicle. Owners of foreign-registered vehicles can obtain a sticker by sending an email to the Berlin vehicle registration authority at kfz-zulassung@labo.verwalt-berlin.de attaching a copy of the vehicle registration certificate specifying the emission code or a manufacturer’s certificate (preferably pdf files). Upon verification of the documents, the registration authority will send a payment request by advance email including the bank details to the applicant. A €6 administration/handling fee will be charged per sticker. The sticker will be sent to the applicant by direct mail. As order processing may take two to three weeks, the sticker should be ordered well in advance.

| My reg doc doesn't have the emission code listed, nor do I have a manufacturer's certificate. | |

| The easiest answer for that is that if you have a UK road legal vehicle you should be fine! | |

But, if we're entering a city that requires display of a vignette and we're not displaying the vignette we'll liable to a 40Eu fine. Or, we can order in advance - but that could take 2 or 3 weeks to get hold of, assuming the vehicle reg doc shows the emmission code, or you have a manufacturers certificate. So, are we entering such cities? As we don't know the route, we can't work it out for ourselves !!

| Don't panic Mr Mannering, I feel sure the organisers will look after us, if not make your own vignette as below
Basic Vinaigrette
2 Tablespoons Wine Vinegar 1/8 Teaspoon Sea Salt 1 Pinch Fresh Ground Black Pepper 1/4 Teaspoon Dry Mustard 6 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil Preparation: 1. Whisk together all of the ingredients except for the olive oil.
2. Blend in the oil by a slow steady stream.
3. Display in Union jack bowl on the dashboard

| Yes, I did read what I posted. And, I asked the question because I don't know the answer. And ... - Quote :

It's a bit late in the day to find out we need them, so I won't have one because: a.. there isn't enough time to get one now b.. my reg doc doesn't show the emmission code and I don't have a manufacturers certificate c.. the route has been recce'd - and we haven't been told we'll need one So I'm up for a fine anyway, if we do pass through a city the requires display of a vignette, even if you can get them in shops or garages along the way, as I can't prove what the registered emmissions of my truck are. Hence why I asked the question, unfortunately, I only found out about the requirement last night, and, as you rightly point, out, the route has been recce'd so I'll assume we don't need one. If I come across a sign telling me I do need one - Quote :
indicated by signs “Umweltzone” showing coloured vignettes ("Plakette") - green, yellow and red.
I'll be turning around (assuming the road layout allows) to avoid the fine for non-display.

| You donate £30 to my JGP and I'll pay your Umweltzone fine if you get one, hows that. | |

| Info: Here and here. But lets wait for confirmation from the recce that we do or don't need one. | |

| While we're at it, there's the LHC at CERN that might cause the total collapse of all space/time as we know it. As this would cover the entire route, can we have reassurances that....
Ah. I'm seeing a flaw in my question. No matter what assurances we get, the assurances will cease to exist along with us in the event of a black hole emerging on the French/Swiss border. And nobody would be around to sue or be sued.
Ok, I'll be back as soon as I've thought of another extremely unlikely event that I can demand reassurance about.

| Dear Mr Eckerslike, I would like to register a complaint about the damned vignette! Despite our best efforts all attempts to make the thing stick to the windscreen for examination by the Polizei have failed and we have only managed to fill the windscreen heater vent with foul smelling condiment! A suspect that your recipe is flawed in some way. With luck and following wind we shall have B'ambi cleaned up by the 19th! Disgruntled of Leicester | |

| ok so you have info, but tim and keith have been around, and being as important as your making this, isnt the fact they didnt mention this a point that its not going to be needed?
i dont wanna be fined on route etc but i trust that they would have let us know!!
i have a hybrid landrover, emissions codes dont exist and manufacture certificate, yeaa.. no dont have one of these either,
but again i trust tim and Keith would have told me if i needed a little green sticker, or whatever colour!!
