| Yes mate We'll need to fill them up in France. You can't take full ones on the ferry | |

| Just a quick point on this, we will, that is Keith, will, on the reccie, mark some fill up places, BEFORE, the ferry, as we arrive into france on a sunday, and lots of places are closed, out in the sticks etc on Sundays, and many, of the pay at pump with card, don't accept some UK cards. All in final details etc, more clearer after reccie Jerry cans, if you store full cans on roof racks, you will struggle with ferry people ! http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/overseas/countrybycountry.html?mySelect=%2Fmotoring_advice%2Ftouring_tips%2Ffrance-monaco.pdf&go.x=48&go.y=12&go=Go! | |

| Toll prices are on there too. Doesn't look as bad as I thought as it's only France that has them | |

| Hi guys, With regards to Jerry Cans, as organisers, we are going to ask that you leave your Jerry Cans empty until you get to France. When we go on the reccie in April will will find out where the nearest fuel stations are to the ferry port (in France) and we will go from from there Tim | |

| You're not in an L200 so it has to be your face that's the problem The issue of refuelling on a Sunday in France is a huge one. As mentioned above, fuel stations off the beaten track don't usually take UK cards (they had chip and pin before us and very few places off the E and A routes have updated to CnP2 yet). A lot of stations are pay at pump only outside of weekday core hours too. When three fuel stations in quick succession were dry on the Reims/Calais autoroute on one trip I had to find a local who would let me use his card in exchange for a large pile of notes - and while he did it he made it quite clear he was peed off with brits always asking so it must be a common problem. Full tanks just outside Portsmouth would seem to the the order of the day. The Shell garage at the top of Hillsea (London Road/Northend Parade junction and only 2 minutes off the M27/A27 junction) is consistently the cheapest in the area - it's 113.9 for diesel at the moment compared to 117.9 at the Shell next to the docks. | |

I was planning on paying just by card!!! Looks like it's gonna be just cash!! | |

| Cards are fine on the Autoroutes and in normal working hours off the motorways. It's outside hours (inc. Sundays) on rural roads that can cause problems. Also the smaller supermarket chains tend to have no "till", all being pay at pump with the old CnP1 readers that don't talk to the UK CnP2 systems and decline your card. They are gradually replacing them as CnP2 gets more widely adopted in europe, but the French do like to do things their own way. Peut-être que vous préférez capitulation monsieur? Non! Nous sommes Français et nous ..... Cette capitulation .... il viennent avec du fromage? | |
