Sky Lanterns Empty
PostSubject: Sky Lanterns   Sky Lanterns EmptySat Nov 07, 2009 9:09 am

I put this here on its own although it covers the Arnhem thread, it also covers the Powell Arms Charity weekend. I bought some of the Sky Lanterns to try them and see what they are all about before Arnhem. They are a little tricky to hold and light and definately need two persons to do it. The ones I bought are brilliant and about 3' high and when extended about 2' across. Although made of rice paper are quite study and coated in something to slow the burn rate of the lantern. Once assembled it fills with heat fairly quickly and it is clear when you need to let go. I tried one and although wet and windy tonight, took off and got caught by the wind and went up and across at a good speed.
I bought them from here.

Tomorrow evening during the Charity Weekend I am planning on setting off 5 from outside the Powell Arms to mark the sad loss of the five soldiers the other day.

I also bought some to try oot.
20 for just under £20 incl p+p.

Friday neet saw my neighbour and I having a go.
As 'JJ' has detailed above tis really a 2 person thingy.
It is awsome watching it rise up and into the neet sky.

Thank you 'JJ' for putting this idea into oor heeds.

I would have posted sooner but was waiting for any news reports of fires or UFO's as the Latern headed Southwards in the direction of Bournemooth Airport.

I set a sky lantern off for my nephews 3rd birthday! It gives you a good idea of the size of them.
